Following Network Rail’s recent announcement of their comprehensive five-year rail improvement plan, they have emphasized their commitment to delivering a simplified, improved, and more environmentally friendly railway, while ensuring the highest level of train performance and resilience to extreme climate change.
Mr. Andrew Haines, Chief Executive stated, “Delivering a better railway for passengers and freight users is at the heart of our new five-year investment plan. Tackling climate change, safely improving train performance, adapting and responding to changing commuter habits whilst managing an ageing infrastructure requires the whole industry to rally for the benefits of all rail users.”
The ambitious five-year plan involves a substantial investment £2.5 billion in climate resilience activities and maintenance aimed at providing primary weather resilience benefits and advanced technology. This includes the enhancement of thousands of miles of drains, cuttings, and embankments to fortify weather resilience, with a focus on more than 20,000 cuttings or embankments for improvement, among other initiatives.
In collaboration with Step on Safety’s continuous support for Network Rail and our commitment to providing a sustainable environment with our GRP Solutions we are incredibly excited and proud of this project. We wish them the best over the five-year period.
Making our environment safer with every step through continuous improvement in our work and marketplaces – that’s Step on Safety.
